Arsenal Football Club can confirm they have agreed to sign striker Chu Young Park from AS Monaco.

The 26-year-old South Korea captain scored 25 times in 91 appearances for the French club during three seasons in Ligue 1.

The one-time Asian Young Footballer of the Year made his debut for the South Korea senior side at just 19, and played in both the 2006 and 2010 World Cups. He replaced the retired Ji Sung Park as captain of the national team earlier this year.

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger said: “We are delighted to have signed Chu. He will add true quality to our attacking forces and will be a valuable addition to the squad.”

Chu Young Park said: "I am very honoured and I feel very happy to be at Arsenal. It is a dream to be here and I am really proud to be an Arsenal player. Now I just want to show how good I am and prove myself.

"In my opinion this is a great club, now I have to show what I can do on the pitch. I will do my best, I will never give up, I will show heart, I will give everything and I hope [the fans] will support me."

The deal is subject to the completion of formal registration processes.

Chu Young Park will wear the No 9 shirt at Arsenal. The striker prefers to be known as 'Ju' and will therefore have J. Y. Park as his shirt name.

Welcome aboard! ::)

also, interviewnya pake dubbing rupanya. gw pikir udah pake bahasa inggris si Ju, hehe..

Park Chu-young resembles a Wenger player but Arsenal fans may disagree (http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2011/aug/30/park-chu-young-wenger-arsenal)

Quote
"I had to choose between Lille and Arsenal," said Park Chu-young as he arrived home in South Korea on Monday for national team duty. "I wanted to choose without regret." Whether Arsène Wenger will say the same after signing the 26-year-old striker remains to be seen.

The fee is low, around £3m but is less a reflection of ability than a two-year military tour of duty that starts in 2013, though he may be able to join a police team instead in 2014. That deadline, a 2012 Olympic medal grants exemption, was why the player was increasingly desperate to leave Monaco after three years and why, with a deal almost done on Saturday, he dropped everything at Lille to head to London.

Park has been a huge star in his homeland since becoming Asian Young Player of 2004 and impressing for FC Seoul from 2005. Later, he suffered from injuries, loss of form and confidence – for a while one-on-ones became painful to watch. It was only after a move to Monaco in 2008 that he really started to develop into one of Asia's best strikers.

That accolade may not impress Arsenal fans and even his Asian fans don't expect Park to become an automatic starter anytime soon. The feeling was that after impressing on the Mediterranean, Park had earned the chance to play on a bigger stage and French champions Lille sounded about right. Arsenal interest was a surprise but every time the Daegu-born striker has had the chance to make the step to the next level, he has done so.

Twelve goals out of a total of 38 in Monaco's relegation season is a good return but although Park's finishing has improved, it remains erratic. Comparisons to Nikolas Bendtner end there however. The hard-working Korean offers much more technically than the Dane. At times, Monaco lamented the lack of a killer instinct – perhaps Lille would disagree – but will miss his vision, touch and awareness around the penalty area.

With an Arsenal squad stretched, Park brings versatility – he can play on the left or right but prefers the middle – and pace. A six-footer, he will adapt to the rigours of English football more quickly than Park Ji-sung or Lee Chung-yong. The South Korean captain takes a better free-kick than Theo Walcott as demonstrated against Nigeria at the 2010 World Cup. A good header of the ball with a good head on his shoulders (an IQ of 150) he has the look of a Wenger player, though again, that may not be what Arsenal fans currently want to hear.

With a pre-season tour of Asia and the addition of Ryo Miyaichi from Japan, the London club are suddenly active in the far eastern market. Despite the hype, most European teams receive little commercial boost from Asian players. This could be different. Arsenal can make Miyaichi a star at home but Park already is one.

It can't be too long before Arsenal credit cards (it is rarely about shirts) are a new must-have item in Seoul. Park now has to show he can earn similar status in London.

Don’t Blame Park Chu-Young (http://adamsummerton.wordpress.com/2011/08/29/dont-blame-park-chu-young/)

Quote
Such was the reaction to news that Park Chu-Young would be moving to Arsenal, that you could hardly have blamed the South Korean international if he had called the whole thing off and took up an alternative offer from French Champions Lille.

Phone-ins and message boards have been littered with contributions from people bemoaning, what is percieved to be, a perfect example of where Arsene Wenger’s going wrong in his attempts to take Arsenal forward.

The most polite comments say Park Chu-Young “doesn’t excite” as a signing for Arsenal – the more derogatory comments have used his name to poke fun at Arsenal’s transfer policy…”too young” etc.

The reality is that Park Chu-Young isn’t ‘too young’, at 26 he should be in his prime, he’s the Captain of his national side, has played at two World Cup Finals, and quite frankly, deserves a bit more respect.

Last season he was one of the shining lights in a struggling Monaco side that was relegated from Ligue 1 – enhancing his own reputaiton with a reasonable return of 12 goals in 33 games.

That goals return looks even better when you consider many French sides adopted a safety first, defensive approach last season – with Ligue 1 averaging fewer goals per-game (2.34) than any of Europe’s other top leagues.

For the record, the average goals per-game ratio in Serie A was 2.51, in La Liga it was 2.74, in the Premier League it was 2.80, in Germany’s Bundesliga it was 2.92 and the Eredivisie it was 3.23.

However, it’s fair to say that whatever statistics you look at, it certainly can’t be claimed that Park Chu-Young is a ‘marquee signing’ – although that’s not his fault and it doesn’t mean he can’t be a good addition to the Gunners squad, without necessarily being a regular starter.

I’m sure there were similar raised eye-brows and mutterings of “who?” when Manchester United signed Park Ji-Sung from PSV Eindhoven for around £4m in July 2005 – he’s since won nine major trophies.

Lee Chung-Yong might not have won any silverware at Bolton Wanderers, but he’s another South Korean international who’s really impressed in the Premier League, despite being unknown to many in England before his transfer from FC Seoul for £2.2m in 2009.

Now, I totally understand that all this will be of little comfort to frustrated Arsenal fans, who want to see their club spend big on several key signings – it was necessary before the losses of Fabregas and Nasri and has become absolutely imperative now, if Arsenal are to challenge for trophies and remain in the top four this season.

The early season form of Manchester United and Manchester City in particular, has shown the bar has been raised even further in the Premier League, and Arsenal are in danger of being left behind if they don’t act now.

You can only imagine the positive influence three or four top quality players could have, on what’s an already talented squad – the sprinkling of real class that could transform them from nearly-men into winners.

I’m talking about players like Emmanuel Petit, who’d captained Monaco to the French League title before signing for Arsenal in 1997, or Marc Overmars – already a Champions League winner when he arrived from Ajax – Sol Campbell’s another example – an established England international, with eight seasons of Premier League experience, when he moved across North London in 2001.

After receiving in the region of £55m from Barcelona and Manchester City recently, Wenger surely has the disposable cash to sign several players of that calibre, whilst still having the luxury of taking educated guesses on players like Park Chu-Young.

It doesn’t have to be one approach or the other, there’s no reason why they can’t co-exist – and Sunday’s 8-2 mauling at the hands of Manchester United will surely have confirmed that to Wenger.

Big money, high profile signings like Rooney, Young and Nani, combining to devastating effect with a mixture of youth graduates and players who weren’t so well known when they arrived at Old Trafford, such as Evans, Cleverley, Hernandez, Park Ji-Sung and Welbeck.

That said, I’m sure even Sir Alex Ferguson has looked on with admiration over the years at Arsene Wenger’s amazing ability to buy players relatively cheaply, improve them greatly and then sell them on for big profits.

He’s done it time and time again, from Anelka and Overmars to Fabregas and Clichy.

Those four players alone fetched in the region of £88m for Arsenal, and all, with the exception of Overmars, were about as well known to many in England as Park Chu-Young when they first arrived at Arsenal.

It would therefore be utter lunacy to try and dissuade Wenger from trying to unearth further rough diamonds – what’s critical now, more than ever before in his time at Arsenal, is that Wenger merges that policy with a willingness to spend big on the select few that can make the difference between success and failure.

Whether that happens or not, I believe Park Chu-Young is a victim of circumstance, and the reaction to his transfer would have been totally different had it happened six years ago, when Arsenal were still winning silverware and the patience of supporters hadn’t been so severely tested.

Chu Young Park on Arsenal, the David Beckham comparison and Arsene Wenger

I’m very honoured and I feel very happy to be at Arsenal. They are a team that I dreamed about when I was young, I always liked Arsenal and I cannot believe that I am here.

When contact was made and I was told of their interest, I could not believe it, I was really happy. [How did I find out?] Well, I got a phone call from my club and they told me that Arsenal were interested in signing me but at first I didn’t believe it and I needed to check that it really was Arsenal. I want to thank everyone who made this move possible for me.

A lot has happened in two days and it feels like a big, big step up but that doesn’t mean I won’t be able to perform.

I will work very hard, I will train very hard and I will show that I am able to be part of this Arsenal team. I will work hard to prove myself and build a reputation with the Arsenal fans.

When I first went to Monaco, I got better and better. I scored more goals the longer I was there. At the moment I am prepared to show even more at Arsenal.

I need to get to the point where I can be at my best and that will require concentration and hard work. I will be strong and hopefully I will show my best form.

[Arsene Wenger?] He is an Arsenal legend. From the moment I liked Arsenal he was the head coach and I have always admired him. He has been here for many, many years and he is one of the best in the world and I am very happy to get the chance to work with him.

[His reputation?] I’ve always heard that Mr. Wenger is very professional and that he thinks about football all the time. He has a reputation for being a good man and treating all his players with respect.

I hope he will be nice to me too. His reputation at Monaco is very good, because he was a manager there of course, too.

[The comparison with David Beckham?] I think that’s not possible, when I was played in Seoul I scored many goals with free-kicks but at Monaco I didn’t score one goal with free-kicks, so I don’t think the comparison is accurate.

Nice read...

In Bed with Maradona (http://inbedwithmaradona.com/journal/2011/9/2/arsenals-park-chu-young.html)

Quote
As Park Chu-Young, captain of the South Korean national team, becomes the 9th player from the country to play in the English Premier League after a move to Arsenal, it’s time to have a closer look at his career

Park’s parents never wanted him to become a footballer, with an IQ of 150 his academic capabilities seemed to be pushing him away from a sporting career. His footballing talents were as obvious as his intelligence as in the country’s high school football championship, he scored a phenomenal 47 goals in 33 games for Chunggu High School. During this time he also took a year off in 2002 to pack his suitcases and improve his game at the Zico Football Centre in Brazil – all funded by K-League club Pohang Steelers. After winning 4 top scorer’s awards in 4 different competitions at high school level, Park advanced to Korea University which, along with Yonsei University, has produced some of the best players in the country.

He was then called up to represent his nation at the U-19 AFC Youth Championship in 2004 which South Korea won for the eleventh time. Park became the tournament’s top scorer with 6 goals as well as being named 'Most Valuable Player'. His goal against China in the Final really kick-started ‘Park Chu-Young Syndrome’ as the South Korean number 10 received the ball on the left flank, cut inside, dribbled past five defenders – who repeatedly collapsed in an attempt to stop him – and put the ball into the back of the net by sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.

In January 2005 Park participated in yet another youth tournament. In the eight-team U-20 competition held in Qatar, Park Chu-Young bagged a brace against China (3-2 to Korea) and scored a hat-trick just 3 days later against Ukraine (3-2 to Korea) to put South Korea through to the semi-finals where they faced Algeria, Park continuing his wonderful form and scoring another double to sink the Africans 2-1. South Korea’s opponents in the Final were Japan, who had defeated Norway 2-0 in the semi-final, and they had their own prodigy in Hirayama Sota who had been widely advertised by the Japanese media as Japan’s response to Park Chu-Young. While Park Chu-Young again singlehandedly won the game 3-0 for South Korea, Hirayama made little contribution coming off the bench. It was yet another top scorer’s award (9 goals in 4 games) and a MVP title for the young striker who also won 2004’s Asian Young Footballer of the Year Award. The whole country hailed him as the potential saviour of Korean football, especially as at the time the senior side were struggling massively under Dutchman Jo Bonfrere.

It was about time he started his journey as a full professional footballer and in 2005, he made the kind of move that he would replicate 6 years later to join Arsenal. Pohang Steelers were clear favourites for his signature as the four time Korean Champions had the right of first negotiation after helping his progress by sending him to Brazil, although Daegu FC also had a glimmer of hope with Park being a native of the club’s local city. Against all odds he rejected Pohang to join FC Seoul who had been controversially relocated to the capital from the city of Anyang a year prior. Criticising Park was seen almost as treason and Pohang’s complaints went almost unnoticed, as the new star of Korean football started his professional career in a stellar fashion by scoring 12 league goals in 19 matches.

He also took part in the U-20 World Cup in the same year, scoring a wonderful free-kick against Nigeria but it was not enough for South Korea after losing to both Switzerland and Brazil. National team coach Jo Bonfrere was still not convinced that he had what it takes to pull it at the highest level, but Park eventually won his first senior cap in what was a must win match against Uzbekistan for the World Cup qualifiers in June. South Korea were trailing 1-0 and he scored a dramatic late equaliser to keep hope alive, and then went on to score the opening goal in the next match against Kuwait. Thanks to his two very important strikes South Korea qualified for the World Cup for the sixth time in a row. Then with the grandest international competition fast approaching, Jo Bonfrere was sacked and replaced by fellow Dutchman Dick Advocaat.

Park then had to endure his first ever slump as he was clearly out of favour in the World Cup in Germany, only appearing in the last group match against Switzerland. In the match that ended South Korea’s hopes of reaching the Last 16 for the first time ever on foreign soil, Park Chu-Young was one of the scapegoats, having conceded a free kick that resulted in Philippe Senderos’ decisive headed goal. Meanwhile in September 2006, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who had already signed Park Ji-Sung in 2005, was quoted as saying that hoping to sign a ‘young boy from South Korea’ and when the English giants visited Seoul in July 2007, Ferguson admitted that the ‘young boy’ he was talking about was in fact Park Chu-Young and that he is checking his progress (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhPTnMjk50s).

Since the failure at the 2006 World Cup and then a similarly disappointing performance at the Asian Games, Park had been in a slump and with niggling injuries he failed to find his form in the 2007 season, scoring just 2 goals in 11 appearances and the talk of a move to United all but died out. After a slightly improved performance at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing with a goal against Cameroon, Chu-Young secured a move to 2004 Champions League finalists AS Monaco. On his debut for the Stade Louis II outfit, he put in a man of the match performance with a goal and an assist against FC Lorient. It the end, it was a decent debut season in Europe for Park with 5 goals and 5 assists in 31 matches – solid numbers for a player who was fielded out of position as a wide attacking player.

Despite possessing enough technique and skills to cope at a wide position, one of Park’s biggest strength is his aerial ability even if he is not the tallest of players at 182 centimetres. During his time at FC Seoul, the club released their players’ Sergeant Jump Test results and Park recorded an incredible 91 centimetres with the other 23 players recording an average of 62.6 centimetres. With that number reportedly increasing by more than 10 centimetres since his move to Ligue 1 along with some superb off the ball movement, he led Moncao’s frontline scoring 20 league goals in his next two seasons until, of course, Monaco couldn't avoid relegation.

His biggest regret to this day must be not winning the gold medal at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China. At first Monaco, unaware of Park’s obligations to serve the military, were reluctant to accept the Korea Football Association’s request to call him up but the player managed to persuade them. South Korea were undone by UAE in the semi-finals and only managed the bronze medal, meaning Park Chu-Young is still chained to the military service. It’s a big head scratcher for both the player and his club as if he wants to continue playing professional football, he must return to Korea by age 27 and join K-League’s military club Sangju Sangmu. If he delays it until he is 29 years old he could join National Police Agency FC in R-League (Reserves League) or if he gives up playing football all together, he will be able to play for Arsenal until he is 32 years old. The ideal solution for both parties would be Park Chu-Young participating in next year’s Olympic Games as one of the wild card call-ups and trying his absolute best to win a medal with South Korea’s U-23 side. Although an improbable task, it will be more or less the last chance for Park Chu-Young and for once Arsène Wenger will have to respond gladly to an FA’s request to call up one of his players.

Katanya si park kecapean abis international kemaren

Park Chu-Young admits he was fatigued in Kuwait but is ready for Arsenal debut

The new Gunners signing is hoping to make his Premier League debut against Swansea City on Saturday, but he admits recent international commitments have taken it out of him

Korea international captain Park Chu-Young admits Tuesday's 1-1 World Cup qualifier draw in Kuwait took its toll on him due to the stifling conditions.

The new Arsenal signing scored his ninth goal in 17 matches against Middle East countries in the result which moves Korea to four points from two games.

However, Park said after the game that the hot conditions, long travel distances, hostile atmosphere and unfamiliar pitch conditions made it difficult.

“I felt really tired, but I appreciate that other players took control of the game well,” Park told Ilgan Sports.

He added: “The match was a good opportunity for our players to improve.”

Park is now looking forward to linking up with his new team-mates at Arsenal, with a debut against Swansea City a possibility this Saturday.

"I will try to adjust at Arsenal and work hard to play in many games as I can,” he said.

============================

Wenger Will Finally Unleash His New Striker
The South Korean will be forced to leave Arsenal after only two seasons at the club due to his country’s compulsory military service requirement, but Wenger’s latest comments on his summer signing suggest that Premier League appearances will come sooner rather than later. Wenger spoke after Park scored the winner at the Emirates - a goal and performance which really impressed the Arsenal manager. He said:
Quote
“For me I am very pleased with his performance. He had a very, very good game. He has shown intelligence in his link play with others. The quality of his movement was exceptional and his finishing is absolutely fantastic. He has shown tonight that he is a very, very good player. He is ready to play in league games, yes.”

The game against Bolton was Park’s second first team appearance in an Arsenal shirt, and Wenger felt that it was a much improved performance to his debut against Shrewsbury Town in the previous round of the Cup:
Quote
“Compared to the player who played in the first match [against Shrewsbury] where he was a bit inhibited, tonight I felt he played with freedom and has showed what a good player he is.”

Wenger had explained previously why he had been cautious about throwing Park straight into Premier League action, citing examples of Robert Pires and Thierry Henry as players who needed time to adapt the England. The Arsenal manager wants to avoid immediate and harsh judgement on a player whom he believes to be very talented and capable of being a regular and important member of the Arsenal team.

http://football-talk.co.uk/45675/wenger-finally-unleash-striker/ (http://football-talk.co.uk/45675/wenger-finally-unleash-striker/)

so,maybe we can see Park playing his debut at BPL this saturday  :)

Individual Highlights Of Park Chu-Young Including Superb Winner
Arsenal striker Park Chu-Young put in a match winning display during the Gunners 2-1 Carling Cup victory over Stoke on Tuesday, hitting the winner with a curling effort from the edge of the box. Following the game manager Arsene Wenger claimed the Korean is now ready for Premier League action. Watch individual highlights of his performance here:

Quote

Memang kondisinya serba sulit buat Park.

Not even on the bench for fa cup vs sunderland. Gosip dia minta pindah sih keknya bakal kejadian beneran. Mungkin ada youngster yg step up ditambah 1 signing baru...
Title: Arsenal Siap Pinjamkan Park Chu-Young & Lukasz Fabianski
Post by: wmdhani on February 21, 2012, 11:04:05 PM

I doubt dia bakal dapat game time untuk first team.

Warning: in a tongue-in-cheek manner

Quote
Good morning Truth Seekers. (http://www.7amkickoff.com/2012/park-for-suarez-via-lille-and-the-us-special-forces/)

As you already know, news broke yesterday that Arsenal striker Park Chu-Young deferred his mandatory military service with his home country South Korea for 10 years. This deferment means that the South Korean star will not need to report to duty until 2022.

Many Gooners are already aware that Park’s transfer to Arsenal was quite the cloak and dagger moment in Arsenal history. As reported in the papers Arsenal signed Park from the hotel in France where he was set to sign with Lille. He came to Arsenal and was immediately given the coveted number 9. Yet as of this article, Park has played only four times for Arsenal’s first team.

Who is this player and why is he at Arsenal? Why did the team sign him with such urgency only to use him so sparingly? As usual, my crack team of investigators has the back story.

First, the papers often use the term “swoop” when talking about transfers but in this case Arsenal literally swooped in and signed Park. According to my source who was working in the kitchen at the hotel in Lille on the night he was spirited away from Monaco, Arsenal sent in a Navy Seal team who landed on the roof and rappelled into Park’s room, swooping away with the South Korean superstar and leaving not a trace they were there.

The helicopter flew at once across the channel and landed in Dover where Park received the second part of his medical and signed terms with Arsenal. The fee Arsenal agreed to with Monaco was £2.7m up front with a negotiated £1.8m+ fee if Park could earn the military deferment that would allow him to finish his football career. For folks wondering why Arsenal and Monaco are still negotiating over Park’s transfer terms, it’s because of this recent development which makes him a lucrative asset now. Rather than returning to South Korea at age 28 to serve the remainder of his career in the military, Park will be available to teams until he turns 36.

So, how did Park earn that deferment? Because the principality of Monaco offered Park a 10 year residency and according to the rules of compulsory service, Park was able to use that residency to defer his enlistment for the term of his non-Korean residency. This has caused some uproar among his supporters back home who feel like he has found a loophole in the system.

Park’s international goal scoring record is very good. So, why can’t he get into the Arsenal first team? And why is he at Arsenal if he doesn’t play?

Well, the first is easy to answer: Robin van Persie. Arsene is not going to play a 4-4-2 and it doesn’t matter how much Arsenal fans stomp their feet and cry. That means Park either has to play as a converted wing forward or up top in Robin’s place. He’s not getting Robin’s place and when Henry was with the team it basically limited everyone else getting in, so in the one game Park did come on it was as a wing forward against AC Milan. His largely anonymous performance in that match should tell you why he’s not playing there either.

This is not to say that Park isn’t a quality player. In fact, as much as I had hoped my operatives turned up evidence that Arsenal signed Park because he is a double agent for MI-6* the most obvious answer is that Arsenal saw a player who could play back-up to Robin van Persie, who would be 100% professional about the job (even playing in the reserves), and whom they could not only get on the cheap but who Arsenal could sell on and possibly make a profit.**

Word today is that Arsenal are in talks with Anderlecht over the prospect of a trade deal that would send Park their way and bring 23 year old Argentinian Matias Suarez (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2109094/Matias-Suarez-coveted-English-clubs.html) to the Gunners. My informants (YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tggy630-xEk&feature=related)) tell me that Suarez is a real talent who is versatile enough to play both through the middle and on the wing. A player who is as at home dribbling through a defense as scoring a long distance cracker.

If that night in Monaco, when the Green Berets*** swooped in and stole Park away from Lille for a mere £5m, eventually leads to a talent like Suarez coming to Arsenal I think it will have all been well worth the cloak and dagger.

Qq

*Park… Chu-Young Park.
**Sub £5m is good for a striker who has as good a goal scoring record as Park. Imagine how much he would be worth if he scored 11 goals for Blackburn and he was English?
***If you can’t tell this article is tongue-in-cheek mixed with fact, then perhaps you need to see a doctor to have your humor checked.

Skill dia gak jelek-jelek amat, bahkan bisa dibilang cukup di atas standar (he was the captain of South Korea NT after all). Mungkin di work rate?

Kalo dibilang dia pindah untuk jualan jersey aja.... well it kinda backfired.
