Arsenal agree long-term Podolski deal

Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that a deal has been agreed to sign German international striker Lukas Podolski on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee.

The Polish-born attacker will team up with the Gunners in the summer ahead of the 2012/13 season from Bundesliga side FC Cologne, where he has been in fine form this season, netting 18 times in 28 league appearances.

After spending his early years training and playing with FC Bergheim 2000, the 26-year-old joined the youth set-up at Cologne in 1995, before making his first-team debut in 2003. After three successful seasons with Cologne he moved to Bayern Munich in 2006. He spent three seasons with Bayern before re-joining FC Cologne in 2009 and is now regarded as one of the leading strikers in the Bundesliga.

Podolski has made 95 appearances for Germany and scored 43 goals since making his debut as a 19-year-old in 2004. He made a huge impact with a series of impressive performances at the 2006 World Cup, where he scored three times and followed this up with three more goals at Euro 2008.

Podolski was also part of the Germany team that produced a number of eye-catching displays at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, including a goalscoring contribution in the 4-1 win over England in Bloemfontein in the last 16. He also featured for ‘Die Geißböcke’ in the pre-season friendly against Arsenal at the RheinEnergieStadion last July.

Manager Arsène Wenger said: “We are delighted to secure the deal for Lukas and see him as an important part of our future. He is a top-class player, a very good finisher and a proven performer at club and international level. He is a very strong player and will provide us with good attacking options.

"We are happy to have made this signing early and we are looking forward to watching Lukas contribute at the European Championship over the summer, a level where he has already made 95 caps at the age of 26. That is a phenomenal record and just shows his quality as a player.”

Speaking about his move, Podolski said: “I’m so happy to be joining Arsenal Football Club and to play in the Premier League. Arsenal is one of the top clubs in Europe with a huge history. There are many top quality players at Arsenal and the style of football which the team plays is fantastic. I’m proud to become an Arsenal player and am looking forward to playing my first match at Emirates Stadium and doing my best for all the Arsenal fans.

“I am looking forward to becoming an Arsenal player, but at the moment my focus is with my current club, FC Cologne. I will give everything I have until the end of season to make sure the team finish as high as possible in the Bundesliga. There will always be a place in my heart for FC Cologne.”

Everyone at Arsenal looks forward to welcoming Lukas to the Club in the summer.

buat gua podolski bakalan jadi good signing
gerv jago drible
tw jago lari
chambo jago penetrasi
podolski jago shooting luar kotak

arsenal punya TR7 yg kreatif, klo di padukan sama kreatif nya arshavin kudunya seh bakalan mengerikan neh

Marquee signing.

Dan gw jg sependapat dia bakal jadi good signing

welcome Lulu!

PODOLSKI SIGNING REPRESENTS MASSIVE SHIFT IN POLICY FOR ARSENAL FOOTBALL CLUB

Spoiler for Hiden:
Firstly, we’ve got a key piece of summer transfer business done and dusted before the window even opens. We’ve been over and over what a mess we made of our dealings last summer, waiting and desperately hoping to hold on to key players before selling them with days to go and then wildly scrabbling around for replacements long after the season had started. Arsene Wenger and Ivan Gazidis have already talked about what a profoundly negative effect that had on our entire season but the signing of Podolski is the first clear message that lessons have been learned.
We’ll have a job on our hands convincing Robin Van Persie to sign a new contract this summer but that job will be made a hell of a lot easier if we can point to quality acquisitions that are already in the bag and signal our intent to challenge for silverware in the coming seasons.
The second reason that this feels like a grand departure for Arsenal is that Podolski is a well-known, big name player. I could count on one hand the number of established international ‘names’ Arsenal have signed in my lifetime. That shirt they sell in the club shop ‘We don’t buy stars, we make them’ irritates the crap out of me. Mainly because you can imagine a Spurs fan adding in tippex ‘and then we sell them and start all over again’.
Podolski is different. 95 caps for Germany speaks volumes. 43 goals for Germany says a fair bit too. At 26 years old that’s a hell of an achievement. This is not a player that Arsene Wenger can lay claim to ‘discovering’. This is a player that comes to the club with a reputation already intact. Of course that won’t make it any easier for him. Expectations will be high and it remains to be seen how he’ll cope with that however…
The third departure is that Lukas Podolski is currently playing the best football of his life. Having burst onto the scene amidst much hype and fanfare as a teenager and then undergoing the inevitable backlash, particularly during a fruitless two year spell at Bayern Munich, Poldi looks to be maturing nicely. He scored 14 goals last season and has managed 18 goals and 6 assists in his 28 league appearances so far this year.
Buying a striker at 26 years old is the right time. He’s about to enter his peak years. There shouldn’t be the frustrations of watching a Theo Walcott or a Carlos Vela make the inevitable mistakes of youth as they try to learn the game in an Arsenal shirt. As demanded by the fans, Podolski should be the finished article.
Of course, none of this guarantees that he’ll be a success at the club but for me they’re all positives. At a reported £11 million fee he’s a relative bargain (some things don’t change) and Le Boss was pleased to have got the deal done:
We are delighted to secure the deal for Lukas and see him as an important part of our future. He is a top-class player, a very good finisher and a proven performer at club and international level. He is a very strong player and will provide us with good attacking options.
We are happy to have made this signing early and we are looking forward to watching Lukas contribute at the European Championship over the summer, a level where he has already made 95 caps at the age of 26. That is a phenomenal record and just shows his quality as a player.
And the man himself was saying all the right things:
I’m so happy to be joining Arsenal Football Club and to play in the Premier League.
So what does this shift in policy for the club represent? For me it’s the first step of the next stage of evolution. Having negotiated the wilderness years following the massive undertaking of the stadium build and being forced to rely on a youth policy that’s shown limited success, this feels like a statement of intent from a club that wants to start to challenge at the very top of the game once more. With the long term debt situation finally under control and with new commercial deals set to be negotiated in the next couple of years, Arsenal’s financial status is strengthening. The squad has a greater balance between youth and experience than we’ve seen in a long time and, although I’m sure we’ll continue to invest heavily in young talent, as we should, I would expect that talent to be supplemented by the occasional more established signing.
The timing of the announcement is a little bit odd. Having held off for so long FC Koln have announced the departure of their top player during the dying exchanges of a relegation scrap. Not quite the morale boost that the club needed I wouldn’t have thought.
And while their loss is most certainly our gain, and I’m delighted to see us making such early moves in the transfer market, it’s a bit of a shame that we’re going to have wait so long to see our new recruit in action in the red and white. It’s a bit like getting the Super Deluxe Toy Robot you badly wanted for Christmas, running around the room in fevered excitement for two minutes before realising that dad forgot to buy batteries for it and now all the shops are shut.
Time to turn back to our old toys and pray they have enough juice left in them to get us to where we need to be until the shops open again.

“When I arrive at the gates of Heaven the Good Lord will ask ‘what did you do in your life?’ I will respond ‘I tried to win football matches.’ He will say: ‘Are you certain that’s all?’ But, well, that’s the story of my life.”

Statistics

18 goals and 6 assists this season. Let’s not forget that FC Koln are very much struggling in the Bundesliga. This is a real feather in the cap for Lukas.
6 goals from counter attacks this season more than every Premier League team other than Arsenal (9). Talk about playing our style of football!
Scored with 29% of his shots in the league (Robin Van Persie’s rate is 21%). We desperately need a guy who wears his shooting boots, turning our possession into goals and not wasting it.
43 goals in 95 appearances for Germany. Remember he is still only 26.
