Hoyte - I'm keen to emulate my brother

By Adam Clark

Walking in the footsteps of a family member is not always easy.

Not that it bothers Gavin Hoyte.

The younger brother of Arsenal regular Justin made the first team bench for the Gunners' recent FA Cup trip to Blackburn, and although the 16-year-old admitted the pressure of being the right back's sibling was evident, he's not expecting too many comparisons.

"I found out I was in the squad just before the Reserve game against Aston Villa," said Hoyte. "[Reserve coach] Neil Banfield came and spoke to me and I was in shock. It came completely out of the blue. But I was so pleased.

"I felt a little bit of pressure at the time because of my brother playing in the first team, but we are totally different. For a start I'm a centre back and he's a right back.

"Obviously I want to do what he's done and I look up to him for what he's achieved but I want to be my own player too."

Gavin was selected for the trip to Ewood Park after injuries and suspensions ravaged Arsène Wenger's squad. The youngster didn't make it off the bench on the night but says there were moments of nervous anticipation when he thought his name would be called.

"I got a little feeling when [Emmanuel] Eboue pulled up early on and, just for a second, I thought 'maybe'. But I was just trying to prepare myself and be ready just in case. Then [William] Gallas started limping and I went through it all again. It was a weird, mixed feeling of both excitement and nerves."

His inclusion for the Blackburn trip represents the latest rung in Hoyte's rapid rise up the football ladder. The pacy defender is very much a part of Arsenal's training set-up at London Colney but revealed he couldn't help but feel a little star-struck on the flight to the North-West.

"It was my first time with the squad and it was quite an experience. Just to watch the rest of the players preparing for the game and experiencing what it's like.

"I was sat on a table with [Manuel] Almunia and [Philippe] Senderos and it was weird to me. I'm always watching them on television and watching them at Emirates Stadium and suddenly I was there and part of it."

The youngster's emergence is yet another highlight in an already magnificent season for the Hoyte family. Justin, who returned from a loan spell at Sunderland last campaign, has made 30 starts for Wenger's side this term, and his younger brother couldn't be more impressed.

"I'm so proud of Justin's achievements this season," said Gavin. "He's played almost every game and became the first English player to score for Arsenal at Emirates. What an achievement!

"It's been a good season for our family."

The Hoytes gagal tampil bareng di babak ketiga Carling Cup melawan Newcastle.

Crystal Palace, Norwich City and Derby County are reported to have made their interest known in taking Arsenal defender Gavin Hoyte on a season long loan.

Hmm, ayo deh menimba ilmu dulu di klub lain...

“I am hoping to be playing in the Championship for a team on loan [next season]. That would be ideal. Jay Simpson is a great example to us because of what he achieved at Millwall. You can tell with him that he has come back a better player. He tells us how different it is to be playing for a side like that. You always need to win at that level and having that gives a player an extra edge.”

Captain Hoyte hails welcome clean sheet

A spectacular strike from Amaury Bischoff stole the headlines at Underhill on Monday night but, for Gavin Hoyte, what happened at the other end of the pitch was just as important.

Arsenal scored twice against Fulham and, encouragingly, they also stemmed the flow of goals conceded this season. After shipping 10 in five matches, Hoyte and company stood firm to keep a welcome a clean sheet. The Reserve team captain put the back four's improvement down to vital work at the training ground.

"We've lost quite a few games this season so it's important to get back to winning ways and it was brilliant to get a clean sheet," Hoyte told Arsenal.com.

"We had to keep our heads in the last few minutes because Fulham were putting pressure on us but we kept at it and we kept them out.

"In training we've been working on our defending and we are learning to keep our shape, especially in the last few minutes of the game because that is vital. We have to make sure we don't do anything stupid."

Hoyte kicked off the campaign at centre back but played the full 90 minutes against Fulham as a right back. It's a position he hopes to keep when Arsène Wenger names his Carling Cup squad to face Wigan next Tuesday.

"It's always good to play in both positions, learning as a right back as well," said Hoyte. "I prefer centre back but when you play right back you get more of the ball going forward and that is improving my game at the other end of the pitch.

"Hopefully I'll be in the team for the Wigan game."

okay, keep it up hoyte!! ::)

Kalo kakaknya si Justin gagal bersaing dan akhirnya di jual, adiknya sepertinya chance nya lebih gede deh buat masuk first team.
